Palm Pre WebOS
About two weeks ago, I got my new cell phone, the Palm Pre from Sprint. Unlink the iPhone SDK that only runs on Mac OSX, the Pre’s SDK runs on Linux, Mac and Windows. This is H U G E and I for one would like to see a iPhone SDK for Windows or Linux (I know I’m not the only one). But seeing that Apple has decided to not support Windows or Linux, I would be focused to use Hackintosh if I wanted to use the SDK.

Anyway, back to Palm’s webOS. The whole phone runs off of Mojo, which is some form/type of Linux. What’s really nice, and big power behind webOS, is the language that’s behind it, fully web based languages. That’s right, xhtml, javascript, css, xml, and last being the API calls for the phone it’s self.
What’s nice about this, is that without learning a new language any web programmer/designer can easily start making apps for the phone. Think about it the same way you do Adobe Air apps, completely designed from web languages.
I’ve been playing around with the SDK, and so far, the learning curve is more with how the assistants, models, and views work together (from my take so far, I’ve been thinking about it like mvc) and the phones own API calls. But the documentation is well done and is easy to follow without having to know any more then client side web languages.
